In Kemsley, Kent we are operating a 50MW battery storage facility connected to the high voltage transmission network.

The battery provides essential flexibility which helps to future-proof our electricity system, supporting more renewable generation coming online and helping Britain achieve net zero.

The battery responds in milliseconds to fluctuations in electricity supply and demand, charging or discharging to keep the system stable.

We have appointed EDF to optimise the battery via their PowerShift platform.

To meet its net zero target, the UK needs to invest in low carbon infrastructure. Our battery portfolio will help future-proof the UK’s energy system, giving it the essential flexibility to manage growing levels of solar and wind power whilst also supporting the adoption of EVs.
