Garn Fach Wind Farm is an 85 MW, 17 turbine proposal, each with a tip height of up to 149.9 metres. The site would be capable of generating enough renewable electricity for 69,000 homes* and help the Welsh and UK Governments to meet climate targets.

Garn Fach Wind Farm, south of Newtown, was approved by Welsh Ministers in October 2024 marking a major step forward in our commitment to renewable energy.
The 17 state-of-the-art turbine project will be capable of generating enough renewable electricity to meet the equivalent needs of 69,000 average UK homes. An energy storage facility onsite will also support flexible capacity and the integration of the renewable energy onto the national grid.
The benefits of the Garn Fach Wind Farm extend beyond renewable energy generation and include job creation, the development of new footpaths and cycle tracks across the site, and creation of a visitor car park for enhanced accessibility. As part of our dedication to community engagement, a community fund worth over £10M will be established over the lifetime of the project. EDF power solutions UK’s commitment to habitat enhancement and restoration measures will also contribute to improving biodiversity on site.
We are proud of the investment we make in the communities that host our projects and we work with local and regional companies wherever possible. We established a Garn Fach Wind Farm community liaison group consisting of local representatives. We are a member of Mid Wales Chamber of Commerce and Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and have already contracted with 10 Welsh companies on project development.
