Sutton Bridge is an operational solar farm near Spalding in Lincolnshire

Sutton Bridge Solar Farm is the first large scale solar project developed and operated by EDF power solutions in the UK. The 49.9 MW solar farm is capable of generating enough low carbon renewables electricity for the domestic needs of more than 9,000 households* annually, saving around 21,000 tonnes** of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

It is a great site for solar as it is suitably sunny and has a nearby grid connection at Walpole Substation. As a result, a Battery Energy Storage System is also going to be developed on the site.

Through additional planting, including native species hedgerows we have improved biodiversity and reduced any visual impact of the development. As a result, a wide variety of ground nesting birds, hare and small deer are now regularly seen on the solar farm.

We’re pleased to say that our community benefit fund of £20,000 per annum for the lifetime of the project is already making a difference with grants already reaching local organisation such as the Sutton Bridge foodbank. We’re proud to work with Lincolnshire Community Foundation, who administer the fund and ensure it is spent where it is needed the most.
